Quick answers from our castor team

The questions we're asked most — answered before you need to wait.

How do I work out the load rating I need per castor?

Add the weight of the trolley or equipment to the heaviest load it will carry, then divide by one less than the number of castors fitted. On uneven floors one castor is often off the ground, so for a four-castor trolley carrying 600kg in total, choose castors rated at 200kg or more each.

Top plate or bolt hole — which fixing do I have?

A top plate castor fixes with several bolts through a flat plate — measure the plate size and the hole centres (the distance between the hole centres, across and along). A bolt hole castor fixes with a single bolt through the centre of the swivel head — measure the hole and the bolt diameter. Our product options list the wheel diameter, overall height, plate size, hole centres and bolt size, so you can compare them with yours.

Which wheel material suits my floor?

Rubber tyres are quiet and kind to floors. Polyurethane carries heavier loads and rolls easily on smooth floors. Nylon is hard-wearing and easy to clean. Cast iron suits heavy loads on rough industrial floors. Puncture proof wheels suit outdoor and uneven ground, phenolic wheels are for high temperatures, and anti-static wheels are for areas where static must be discharged.

Can you find a match for a castor I already have?

Send us a photo of the castor and its plate or bolt on WhatsApp or by email, with the wheel diameter and overall height, and we'll look for the closest match in our range.
